7th ONTARIO HOSPITAL DEPARTMENT CLOSED DUE TO NORWALK VIRUS

...When you or your loved one’s become sick; what can Homeopathy do?

What is Norwalk?
Easily spread virus that is an extremely common cause of food-borne illness. Outbreaks of the Norwalk virus usually occur where a large number of people are confined to a relatively small space. Outbreaks can occur anywhere contaminated drinking water or swimming water exist, and are known to affect camps, cruise ships, schools and nursing homes.

Symptoms
Acute diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, headaches and low-grade fevers. Symptoms usually last up to two days, but can persist for several weeks.

How it spreads
Person-to-person contact. Contaminated shellfish, prepared foods, water and ice. In many cases, infected food handlers can contaminate food. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the only source of the Norwalk virus is feces from infected people. In many cases, shellfish are infected when human waste is dumped from ships.

Prevention
Doctors say hand washing is the best method for preventing the spread. Avoid certain foods such as, uncooked, prepared party foods, and shellfish on cruise ships. Avoid hand-shaking unnecessarily.

Treatment
Medical Doctors for the most part recommend the sports drink solution: there is no effective treatment, other than fluid and electrolyte replacement.

Alternative Treatment
Homeopathic physicians recommend simple, inexpensive sugar pills medicated with medicinal substances that are shown to be safe, effective and can be used by anyone of any age. The only difficult & hard aspect for using a homeopathic remedy to treat the symptoms of the Norwalk virus is selecting the most appropriate medicine.

Below is a simple guide to selecting a useful remedy. When taking a remedy not chosen by a qualified practitioner it is important to follow these simple rules of dose and repetition. Remember, a homeopathic remedy stimulates the body’s own ability to fight disease. Once stimulated the body does the job and not the medicine.

1. Purchase your selected remedy in a potency (strength) of 30CH select either drops or granules.
2. Don’t follow the instructions on the label, take only 1 drop or 1 granule directly into the mouth and wait 1 hour at least.
3. If the chosen remedy helps your symptoms, don’t repeat just wait.
4. If the chosen remedy helped and after a time the symptoms returned, take another dose of the same remedy. If the remedy helps again and then is needed again it can be repeated once more.
5. If the remedy only helps somewhat, don’t take more until the symptoms are much worse again. If the repetition does nothing, choose another remedy and try again.
6. If symptoms persist beyond 24 hrs, contact a qualified homeopath in your area or your GP. The remedies described below are merely a guide and are not to considered a replacement for the monitoring of your health by qualified physicians or other health professionals.
